Who is covered With the Health and Dental Plan?

All full-time Mohawk College and co-op students who pay full activity fees in September, January, or May are automatically covered by the MSA Health & Dental Plan. Certain exceptions exist. Please check your student account to confirm if you have been charged the plan fees.
Part-time students may also be eligible to enroll themselves in the plan. Visit the MSA office to inquire.

What is covered?

Among other benefits, the plan covers:
-
80% for prescription drugs, up to $5,000 per policy year
-
Over $2,500 for health practitioners (psychologists, massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and more)
-
Up to $350 in vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses, laser eye surgery, and more)
-
Up to $750 in dental care (checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, endodontics, periodontics, and more)
-
Travel health coverage (up to $5,000,000 per lifetime), trip cancellation, and trip interruption in the event of a
medical emergency

How can I save more?

You can further enhance your benefits by visiting health professionals who are members of the Studentcare “Networks”. You are covered for the insured portion regardless of the health professional you choose. However, by choosing a “network” member, you will get additional coverage. For example, by visiting a Dental Network member, you will receive an additional 20%-30% off dental services.

How much does it cost?

The plan fee for full-year coverage (September 1 - August 31) is $203.24. New Winter semester students pay $135.49 for coverage from January 1 - August 31. For the new Summer semester students only will pay $67.75 for coverage from May 1 – August 31.
The cost of the plan is part of your student fees.

Can I opt-out or add my family?

If you are covered by another extended health and dental plan (i.e., a parent’s or spouse’s employee plan that is not OHIP), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs.
Alternatively, if you have other equivalent coverage, you can opt-out of the Studentcare plan during the change-of-coverage period and you will receive a credit to your student account for the amount of the plan.
If you are eligible, the change-of-coverage period is also when you can enroll yourself, your spouse, and/or your dependent children in the plan. To add one dependent is $203.24 or to add two or more dependents it is a flat fee of $406.48. This fee may be prorated if enrolling in the Winter or Summer semesters.
