Academics are arguably one of the most important aspects of the college experience, however, they can often be one of the most stressful. But, here at the MSA we strive to help students handle some of their academic stress. We provide a wide variety of academic and career support services to Mohawk College students.
This blog post, the last blog post in our Lean on WE series, will highlight these services.
Career Closet
Have you been struggling to find the perfect outfit to wear to an upcoming job interview, or a co-op placement? If that has been the case, your days of struggling are over because the MSA is here to help.
Through the MSA’s career closet program, Mohawk students can access new and gently used clothing and accessories for the workforce. This program is free for all Mohawk students, all you need to do is visit the MSA office at Mohawk’s Fennell campus and fill out an intake form.
Once the intake form has been filled out, students will be able to choose two outfits to take home and keep.
The MSA is also accepting donations for this program. Suits, collared shirts, ties, belts, blouses, dress shoes, and skirts and dresses are just a few items that we are in need of.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the MSA offices (Fennell, McMaster, or IAHS.

Used Textbook Sale
Purchasing textbooks can often get expensive, especially if you’re buying more than one. In order to help with cutting costs down, here at the MSA we have developed the ‘MSA Used textbook website’. This website allows students to buy and sell used textbooks.
So, how does this MSA service work?
Well, all students need to do is go to www.msaBOOKS.ca, click register at the top of the page, create a user name, insert their password and email.

Table Rentals
One of the hardest parts about doing group projects may just be finding a good place to meet to get stuff done. However, the MSA offers a solution to this problem. The MSA has tables available for students to rent for academic purposes – these tables are located outside The Arnie at Mohawk’s Fennell campus.
To reserve a table, students can visit the MSA office or fill out a request form.
Heath Study Lounge
If the table rentals are not enough, students can also take advantage of the Heath Study Lounge – a quiet space on campus where students can work. There are over 50 seats for individual use, and three rooms for group work. Rooms can be booked, for up to two hours, at the MSA office or in the Heath Study Lounge.

Equipment Rentals
We get it… sometimes you sleep in and you’re running out the door and you forget to grab your calculator… it happens to the best of us. Luckily, one of the career support services the MSA offers is equipment rentals (so your day won’t be ruined because you forgot your calculator).
Through this free service, students can rent equipment (Fennell campus: calculators, lab coats, safety glasses and blood pressure cuffs, IAHS Campus: calculators, lab coats, stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs, Stoney Creek campus: calculators, safety glasses, and welding gloves) for two days.
All you need to do is bring your One Card to the MSA office at your campus.
Graduation Photos
Graduation is something that most Mohawk students look forward to. And if there’s something more exciting than graduation itself, it’s graduation photos. There is a studio for photos set up at all three of Mohawk’s campuses. At the Fennell campus, the studio is set up across the MSA reception desk (G109).
Students must make an appointment for graduation photos. On their scheduled date and time, a photographer will take as many photos as the student wants within the allotted 10-minute timeframe – the standard sitting which costs $20.

In the next part of this series, we’ll talk about the second Lean on WE pillar – Events & Activities.
