What Mohawk College Students Are Most Excited and Nervous About This Upcoming School Year

There are lot of reasons to be excited and nervous for a new school year or semester. Students may have different responses depending on who you ask. The MSA recently asked several Mohawk College students what they were most excited and nervous about for the current winter semester.

Here are some of the most common responses.

Networking & Meeting New People

There are a number of different ways you can network at with the most common probably being connecting with people in your program. However, there are alternative ways to network and meet new people. Here are ways to meet more people outside of your program:

- Get a job on campus

- Join a club

- Become part of the MSA

- Volunteer

- Attend on campus events

Excited to finish school and start working in their field of study

Graduation is an exciting time, but have you taken all the necessary steps to ensure that you are setting yourself up for a job after graduation? This is the perfect time to take advantage of Career Ready. Students and alumni can set up an appointment to go over resume and cover letter help. This will ensure that your resume is the best it can be, with expert help for when you want to enter the work force.

Excited/Nervous about finding a placement/Co-op

Your co-op or placement is an exciting time for you to get hands on experience in your field of study. However, it can be nerve-racking but you can overcome this fear. Come into the placement prepared with a notebook if needed and ready to ask questions. Observe what you are being shown and don’t forget to use this as an opportunity to network as well.

Finding a job after graduation

To make it easier to find a job after graduation, try to find any experience you can that is relevant to your field of study during school. This can be done through summer internships, volunteer work or finding a relevant part-time job.

Balance between a job and course work

Like so many of us, if you are worried about being able to complete projects or assignments by the due date while juggling a part time job, the best thing to do is get organized! Use an agenda or calendar to keep track of all your assignment due dates for the entire semester. Don’t be afraid to complete assignments early if you have some free time - it will free up that time later on.
