You may stop by Brewed Awakenings every morning for a coffee, but how much do you know about your daily cup of Joe?
The coffee at Brewed Awakenings comes from Marley Coffee – a company that works to provide customers with high-quality coffee while also continuing to spread the messages Bob Marley believed in.
The History of Marley Coffee
“Through Bob Marley’s respect for nature and humanity that helped guide his life, his legacy as a force for global good is carried on by his family and manifested in every cup of Marley Coffee,” reads the company’s website. “Together, we want to share this legacy by uniting people from all over the world over coffee.”
Farming, according to Marley Coffee, was something that Bob Marley always dreamed of bringing his passion for music to. This dream eventually became a reality.
Marley Coffee, according to the company’s website, was founded by Bob Marley’s son, Rohan Marley. “While visiting a farm in Ethiopia, Rohan began to understand that, like the music his family creates, people have a rhythm,” the company’s website notes. “The passion he saw in the farmers inspired him to follow his passions and create Marley Coffee.”
According to Business Insider, Rohan started the company in Jamaica in 2009.
Marley Coffee sells fair-trade coffee. This means that the products it sells contain ingredients produced by organizations and/or plantations that meet economic, environmental, and social fair-trade standards. “These standards include protection of workers’ rights and the environment, payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium to invest in business or community projects,” notes the company’s website.
This year (what would have been Bob Marley’s 75th birthday, his birthday is Feb. 6, 1945), throughout the month of February Marley Coffee is encouraging customers to reflect on his values.
