Introducing the MSA Board of Directors: The Satellite Directors

What comes to mind when you hear the word satellite?

While some may think of space, here at the MSA we think of our two incredibly hardworking Satellite Directors – Mital Pandya (Stoney Creek) and Samira Malik (IAHS). In this blog post in the ‘Introducing the MSA Board of Directors’ series, we are going to introduce both Directors (who they are, what they do, what they want students to know about their roles, and more).

Let’s start by introducing Mital.

Mital Pandya is the Stoney Creek Director.

Tell Mohawk students a little bit about their current Stoney Creek Director:

My name is Mital Pandya. I am in the Manufacturing Engineering Technician Automation program at Stoney Creek.

What exactly does your job entail?

When asked this question, Mital kept her answer short and to-the-point. She said her job entails handling student issues, and maintaining the MSA’s relationship with students and the college.

What made you want to apply for this position?

I was an active person on campus. I am very approachable and friendly, and I am a student - so it makes it easy to understand student’s issues.

What initiatives have you taken to support future and incoming Mohawk students?

I have created my own personality without thinking about being judged by others. I [have] worked on [getting] good food and [different] varieties for [the] Stoney Creek campus – I hope that will help.

Now, let’s introduce Samira, the IAHS Director.

Samira Malik is the IAHS Director.

Tell Mohawk students a little bit about their current IAHS Director:

I am currently in the RPN-BScN program at the IAHS campus. Prior to this post-graduate program, I graduated from the Practical Nursing program in April 2019. There is nothing else to add to my bio … other than the fact that I love coffee.

What exactly does your job entail?

My position of Director of IAHS is unique as I am the main voice of the IAHS campus at McMaster University. My position entails connecting with various departments at this campus, replying to e-mails, and much more.

What would you like to achieve through your role?

Due to the fact that this is my second term as Director, IAHS (previously known as VP Health Sciences), it has allowed me to accomplish many things that I had set out to do.

For the remainder of my term, I would like to continue to develop a rapport with the McMaster Student Union. Another thing that I would like to achieve that has been difficult is attaining more student study space on campus. As spaces are limited, this has been a challenge but will continue to advocate for this.

What do you want students to know about the MSA and your position on the Board?

The most important thing that I want students to know about the MSA is that we work hard to represent our fellow students and I hope that it shows. I would also like to let students know that if they ever have any concerns or questions about the MSA, that they can approach me at any time in my office.
