At the beginning of December, the MSA kicked off the festive season with a holiday-themed pub night held at The Cellar – and here holiday cheer rang loud and clear.
What the Holiday Event Looked Like
On Dec. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m., The Cellar was decked with lights, garland, and sparkling decorations in celebration of the special time of year. However, that’s not all - red poinsettias sat on every table, lights twinkled and glinted, and attendees were invited to ‘don we now our gay apparel’ in the form of ugly Christmas sweaters.
Many Mohawk students attended the event with their friends, but some even showed up by themselves to celebrate the season.
“I’m having a great time. I didn’t come with my friends, but I showed up and I’m making new friends,” Liam Bootsma, an Urban Planning student said.
Attendees Showed Their Holiday Enthusiasm
Those who attended had the opportunity to play board games and sing karaoke – there was no shortage of carols for students to belt their heart out to and singers did not disappoint in their holiday enthusiasm.
“I’m just hanging out with some friends, having some food, drinks and watching some karaoke,” Alex Aberdein, a Radio student said.
A Surprise Visitor Made an Appearance
Towards the end of the evening, a surprise visitor came to The Cellar – Santa Claus! He graciously spared some time in his busy schedule to visit Mohawk students. He rounded the corner of The Cellar to a burst of cheers and exclamations. Although he could not be convinced to sing a karaoke song himself, Santa still supported the various participants as they showed their skills.
There was no hesitation from some students when it came to singing, and their confidence supported the easy-going atmosphere of the pub.
