On Nov. 20, 2019, Fennell students joined Mohawk College Faculty members in The Arnie for Faculty Appreciation Day. The event was organized by three upper year marketing students who partnered with the MSA, to bring a long standing tradition from their country of origin – Vietnam – to Mohawk College.

In Vietnam, Nov. 20 is known as Teacher Appreciation Day. This sparked interest for Mohawk students to organize a similar event where students could thank faculty members who have made an impact during their time at Mohawk.

Faculty Appreciation Day at The Arnie

During the event in The Arnie, Mark Hoang, one of the student organizers, said: “As a group of International students, Mohawk College faculty has played a big role in helping us learn about the Canadian culture when we first arrived in Canada. Today, our group wants to bring a little bit of our Vietnamese culture to Mohawk College.”

The main event took place in The Arnie, however, similar events took place at Mohawk’s Stoney Creek and IAHS campuses. Students who participated in the event at the college’s satellite campuses submitted written and video testimonials. At the Fennell reveal, students were also invited to write their own testimonials and place them on a wall for staff members to read.

Overall, the event was well-received by Mohawk faculty.

What Event Meant to Faculty Members

“I am really proud of Daisy, Ty and Mark for planning and executing such an amazing event,” Giselle Jones, a business marketing professor, said. “These students came up with an original project idea and worked tirelessly to ensure its success. All of the faculty I spoke with about this event were not only impressed with the event execution, but also touched by the desire these students had to recognized faculty at the college.”

We hope this inaugural event paves way for future events of this nature.
